4th grade is typically the earliest stage in child development to begin seeing signs of the fine and gross motor dexterity needed when learning a stringed instrument such as guitar or ukulele. This is also our recommended minimum age to begin vocal instruction.*
We know that students younger than 4th grade may express an interest in learning how to play these instruments, however, we believe it is vital for each student to feel successful when beginning to learn a new skill – especially in music!
*Voice lessons starting before age 12 will be focused on vocal exploration, choosing appropriate repertoire, and caring for the voice.
